Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - Animal owners have been urged to cooperate with the municipality in removing these cattle sheds and other makeshift barns.

Illegal barns on the roadsides of Sharjah's Al Faneen and Johid villages have been removed by the municipality as animals on the loose had been distracting road users and causing accidents.

The Sharjah Municipality carried out intensified inspections to curb illegal barns as animals straying onto roads pose a grave risk to motorists, as well as village residents.

The civic body has issued numerous warnings to owners of  the illegal cattle sheds.

The authority has urged people to adhere to the regulations, aiming to keep the emirate's surroundings clean and  preserve the livestock.

Salem Ali Al Muhairi, chairman of the Sharjah Municipal Council, said: "There have been numerous complaints from the residents of the villages in this regard. Despite efforts made by the Sharjah Municipality to remove the barns, owners keep setting up new ones without licence or permission from the authorities concerned. They leave animals unattended and let them roam aimlessly in the villages and crossroads. All of these factors pose a big threat to motorists.

"Our inspection tour comes within the framework of the council's and the municipality's keenness to eliminate factors that affect the general appearance of the emirate. Illegal barns will continue to be removed after notifying owners and informing them of  potential dangers," he said.

"The council also contributes to eliminating the phenomenon by establishing organised barns that adhere to environmental standards. These barns will encourage owners' commitment to the basic requirements of their operation and investment."

Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, assistant director-general of the customer service sector at the Sharjah Municipality, urged the animal owners to cooperate with the municipality in removing these cattle sheds and other makeshift barns.

The campaign will continue until the trend is completely stopped, he added.
