Sheikh and Pope Francis on Sunday discussed progress on implementing the principles of the Human Fraternity Document that was signed during the pontiff's visit to Abu Dhabi in February last year.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces said international unity was more important now than ever as the world fights the coronavirus.

“I discussed with Pope Francis the activations surrounding the principles of the Human Fraternity Document, as well as the importance of international solidarity in facing Covid-19. The UAE will remain a steadfast source of assistance to all who need it,” Sheikh Mohamed said on Twitter.

During his visit to the UAE, Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, and the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, signed the Human Fraternity Document. It called on people across the globe to unite to bring about interfaith harmony and spread a vital message of peace.

The blueprint to "guide future generations" to advance a "culture of mutual respect" spanning all nationalities, backgrounds and beliefs was unveiled after Pope Francis and Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb met at the Global Conference of Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi in February of last year.
