Ras Al Khaimah - Landslides in Ras Al Khaimah blamed on road structure

Thank you for reading the news about Landslides in Ras Al Khaimah blamed on road structure and now with the details

Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - The level of roads, where most landslides were reported, is higher than the lands along them.

With landslides becoming a problem in Ras Al Khaimah during recent heavy rains, authorities have looked into the matter and found that these were caused by some roads' elevation.

"The level of roads, where most landslides were reported, is higher than the lands along them," said engineer Ahmad Ban, general manager of Works Institution at the Department of Public Works. "So, when rain hits the emirate, the water on roads goes straight seeping into the sand and gravel stones, he explained, citing their findings from a recent field survey. The sides of the roads are then eroded, eventually leading to landslides. "We have reached efficient solutions to be implemented from 2020," Ban said.

Most of the reported landslides were in Al Dheit, Al Shuhada road, and the area extending between the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road and Al Saedi road.
