The victim of the collision that killed a teenager on Dundalk to Carlingford Road near Ballymascanlon Tuesday night has been named.

Barry Griffin, 17, was from Castle Heights, Dundalk and was a member of the Roche Emmets GAA club.

He was the passenger of one of the cars involved in the collision.

Roche Emmets posted a tribute on their page yesterday:

“We make this contribution with a heavy heart.

“Unfortunately, one of our young players passed away on Tuesday evening.

“We can really say that Barry was a great person, his jokes and overall good mood were contagious. A talented footballer with a passion for hitting the net. It was a pleasure to have him in the club. ”

“We will miss Barry very much.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to Barry’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“At this point we need to support his teammates, our friends in the Shamrocks FC & Barry family.

“Rest in Peace, Barry”

Barry was also a member of the local football club Shamrocks FC.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic death of our Under-17 player Barry Griffin Jr. Barry has played all of his school football with shamrocks and has been greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the club. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go out to his family, friends and teammates during this very sad time. The funeral arrangements will follow later. ”

Gardaí in Dundalk appeals to everyone who has information about this collision to get in touch. Gardaí is also attractive to all road users who may have camera footage (including a dash cam) that was out and about in the Ballymascanlon region from 8pm. until 9 p.m. to make this footage available to Gardaí.
