I should have left him in Egypt, says Bruce on Elmo after Villa draw

Following Elmohamady’s late equaliser for Aston Villa away at Newcastle, Magpies manager Steve Bruce spoke highly of the player he signed three times.

With every point being essential for Aston Villa’s survival hopes, Elmohamady’s late equaliser away at St James Park may prove to be crucial come the end of the season.

Despite being on the wrong end of the goal, Steve Bruce was able to praise the Egyptian for his goal as he has signed Elmohamady at three different clubs, including Aston Villa themselves.

Bruce said with a smile: “I should have left him in Egypt. I’ve signed him three times. He’s a great pro, a great lad who has served me well over the best part of 10 years.”

“He was one of my best ever signings when I was manager down the road, bringing him in for nothing. I think I paid a few quid for him when I took him to Hull, and how often do these things bite you?”

As well as bringing Elmohamady to Aston Villa, Bruce was the manager who brought him to English football at Sunderland before signing him again at Hull, where they enjoyed several seasons in the Premier League together.

Elmohamady will now turn his attention to Villa’s tricky run of games which starts at home against Wolves on Saturday 27th of June at 1:30PM Egyptian time, before facing Liverpool and Manchester United straight after.
