Aston Villa right-back and Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady has expressed his delight following his side’s victory over Leicester City in the EFL Cup.

Villa defeated Leicester City 2-1 in the second leg of the EFL Cup’s semi-final on Tuesday to advance to the final with an aggregate score of 3-2.

Matt Targett opened the scoring for Villa before Kelechi Iheanacho restored parity as Elmohamady assisted Mahmoud Trezeguet who scored in the dying minutes of the game to send his side to Wembley.

Elmohamady produced a fine cross for a lurking Trezeguet at the back post who tapped home to score his fourth goal of the season.

“Before the game, Trezeguet asked me how many times I have played at Wembly, I told him six times,” Elmohamady told beIN Sports after the game. “Now I’ll be playing at Wembly for the seventh time.

“I want to congratulate Trezeguet for his goal. He always changes the game when he’s on the pitch and now he’ll have his first appearance at Wembly.

“We qualified for the cup final after beating Leicester, who are one of the best three clubs in England.

“But now, we have to focus on the league because we are struggling at the moment,” he added.

Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League table with 25 points after 24 games played, only two points above the relegation zone.

They travel to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday as they face 18th-placed Bournemouth in the Premier League. Kick-off takes place at 17:00 CLT.
