- Yasmine El Tohamy - Former Al Ahly striker Flavio Amado talked about his time with the Red Devils under Portuguese manager Manuel Jose and his toughest opponent in the league.

Flavio joined Al Ahly in 2005 from Angolan side Petro Luanda and had four very successful years with the Reds. He managed to lift four consecutive league titles, two Egypt Cups, four Egyptian Super Cups, three CAF Champions Leagues and three CAF Super Cups.

The 40-year-old made 155 appearances for the African giants, scoring 56 goals and providing 18 assists along the way.

The Angolan international looked back at his time in Egypt and spoke about his experience in the Egyptian Premier League.

“My time with Al Ahly was the most enjoyable period of my footballing career. And I hope to one day coach in Egypt as it will be a great challenge,” Flavio told Onsports TV channel.

“Manuel Jose is closest and most important manager for me, he’s the best manager I’ve ever seen.

“At the beginning people thought I was a bad player but I managed to have a lot of success with Al Ahly. Gilberto and all the other players were always helping me and supporting me.

“I’m very grateful for the Al Ahly fans because they still remember me even though I left ten years ago,” he added.

The former Al-Shabab play also revealed his toughest opponent during his time in Egypt and his most important goal.

“Ismaily was the toughest opponent to play against and I enjoy their style of play.

“I scored 70-75% of my goals with my head and my goal against Ismaily that decided the 2009 league champions is one of the most important ones,” he concluded.

Flavio is currently in Egypt ahead of the CAF awards set to take place on Tuesday January 7th, at Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, Egypt. Where Premier League trio Salah, Mane and Mahrez will be contending for the CAF Player of the Year Award.
