Thank you for reading the news about Saudi vice defence minister meets in Washington and now with the details

Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - Saudi vice defence minister Prince Khalid bin Salman on Tuesday said he met with US President Donald Trump in Washington to discuss regional challenges amid heightened tensions with Tehran.

In a post on Twitter, the prince also said he delivered a message from his brother, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to the president on Monday.

The tweet gave no further details about the message from Prince Mohammed but comes after tensions between the US and Iran spiked over the killing of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in an American airstrike in Baghdad on Friday.

Prince Khalid said he met with the US secretaries of defence and state during the trip, which had been scheduled following the US drone attack that killed top Iranian military commander Gen. Soleimani.

The attack has raised fears of a broader regional conflict, with world powers and allies of the US urging restraint following the shock move.
