Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Gazette report

ABU DHABI — A total of 129 people in the United Arab Emirates have been referred to Public Prosecutor’s office for violating the quarantine procedures defined by competent authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus, state news agency WAM reported on Friday.

The authorities have taken the action in view of the country’s new regulation — Cabinet Resolution No. / 17 / for the year 2020 — regarding the home quarantine procedures as part of the country’s efforts to combat the deadly virus.

According to the WAM report, violators of the quarantine decision will be referred to the Emergency Prosecution. They will be fined (for the first time) Dh50,000 and the amount could be raised to Dh100,000 if the violation is repeated again. However, if the violators repeat the offense for the third time, they will be prosecuted and face a minimum fine of Dh100,000 or up to three years in jail as per the law.

In the event that the accused is unable to pay the fine, the competent authority should include the violation in the criminal electronic system with the Ministry of Interior or the local police officials, according to the circumstances in order to collect it from him by legal means.

If the violator was found to be carrying the virus, the violation would be converted into a criminal case, according to the crimes stipulated in the penal code and the law on combating existing diseases, the report added
