A group of lawyers in Algeria filed a lawsuit against Doctor Amira Bouraoui over comments she made on social media, describing the Prophet Muhammad as insulting.

This group said that the lawsuit was filed in the name of a citizen in Wadi al-Rumman town with the local court. The lawyers explained, “Today (…) we filed a criminal complaint against the so-called Burawi Amira for the offense of insulting the Holy Prophet, in accordance with the provisions of Article 144 bis 2 of the Penal Code.” In their opinion, the one concerned with the lawsuit “… in its last publication, I deliberately mocked and offended the person of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace and his honorable companions.”

With this complaint, the lawyers add, “a new chapter begins in the chapters on which the right-holders move against those who take advantage of any opportunity to challenge religion, sacred things, the prophets and the Companions … Our silence for them for ages made them believe that they are rightful, but rather enlightened and we are backward.”

The lawyers ’statement adds,” Now, justice is among us and it is that which gives everyone his right. ”

This is happening in a relatively tense atmosphere against the background of the ongoing controversy over the content of the amendments introduced to the constitution, especially those related to Islam, Berbers, and the possibility of the army’s intervention outside the country’s borders, which will be held on November 1.
