A classic Boeing 727 commercial jet ended off the runway in an incident last Tuesday, October 20, during a landing in heavy rain.
According to information from The Aviation Herald, the aircraft involved in the occurrence was the Boeing 727-200 freighter registered under registration number HK-4637, operated by the Colombian airline LAS Lineas Aereas Suramericanas.
The jet was carrying out a cargo flight from Bogotá (Colombia) to Valencia (Venezuela) with 3 crew members, and made its landing on runway 10 of the destination in heavy rain at around 3 pm local time, or 4 pm Brasilia.
However, for reasons not yet known, something did not go as it should and the crew was unable to keep the Boeing 727 on the runway, occurring the event called aviation “runway excursion”. The jet stopped with all wheels on the grass a few meters from the side of the runway.
The meteorological conditions (METAR) of the moment show that the visibility was around 8 to 9 thousand meters, however, wind data are not present.
The AvHerald reports that there were no injuries, and that the aircraft suffered minor damage, which seems to indicate that the left main landing gear sank into the soaked terrain, as the images show the left wing almost touching the ground.
Until the publication of this article, it is not possible to know if there was any launching procedure or if the landing was made directly on the first approach, since the radar tracking sites did not register the flight until the end due to the lack of coverage in the Venezuela region.
