Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health said that from Thursday, the Kingdom would enter the next phase of its strategy to deal with the Covd-19 pandemic and would begin easing social distancing measures.

Dr Tawfiq Al Rabiah said on Monday that the strategy – based on two pillars – intends to expand mass testing for an early access to infected cases and will also look at hospital capacity for critical care.

“We move from one stage to another based on a careful health assessment, which gives us space to adjust the strategy and review the course whenever the need arises,” the minister said.

From Thursday, the kingdom will implement the new strategy and begin to relax measures as it seeks to reboot the economy and recover from the crisis.

The minster stressed that returning to normal "requires a high degree of responsibility and attention on part of all us and the need to follow health guidelines.”

“The early measures taken by the Kingdom helped us taking control on the pandemic,” the minister added.

“People have shown a tremendous sense of responsibility in practicing social distancing,” he said, adding that people should cover their noses and mouths when they leave the house.

The health minister said that the Saudi peoples’ commitment to stringent social distancing measures has had a major impact on reducing the country’s mortality rate from Covid-19, which he said was “one of the lowest in the world”.

He also praised Saudi scientists who have helped in the bid to contain the virus.

Saudi Arabia has seen nearly 75,000 cases of the virus and 399 deaths. It has the most cases out of any country in the GCC.
