The Egyptian doctor, Mohamed Al-Hofi, professor of food sciences at Ain Shams University, warned of the danger of eating liver in some cases, after it caused several people to suffer from poisoning.

Al-Watan newspaper quoted Al-Hofi as saying that the liver sometimes poisons the person who eats it, given that it is a highly perishable food because it is filled with blood.

The doctor noted the danger of eating liver from street vendors, saying that the street vendor prepares the liver under bad conditions and high rates of pollution, which helps the multiplication of bacteria and the toxins resulting from them, which accumulate inside the body, and appear over time.

He also called not to eat liver from the streets because it is often imported and frozen, and left at a low temperature, which makes it a suitable environment for the growth of bacteria, especially that cause poisoning.

The professor of food sciences added that it is difficult to distinguish poisonous liver, because toxins have no taste, in addition to the fact that the spices placed on the liver change its taste so dramatically that it is difficult to distinguish the bad from it.

The liver is more dangerous because it is a storehouse for animal toxins, as its role lies in filtering toxins from the blood, in addition to being full of cholesterol, which is dangerous for heart disease owners, because it causes them to stiffen and narrow the arteries.

Al-Hofi concluded his advice by eating the liver of small animals, such as sheep, goats, chickens, and others, and advised to stay away from the liver of imported animals because it is usually large, with the need to pay attention to hygiene, and not leave it for long periods outside the refrigerator because it is fast corruption.
